Universe 7: Growth
"Bases can grow. Colonies carry my influence further." Universe 7 deepens the building system. Bases can now be upgraded to Colonies (up to 3 per Base), increasing territorial income. Territory trading opens between players — the first direct economic negotiation. And Fate's Choice gives experienced players the ability to control the timing of Paradox X: delay it once, or profit from the chaos.
What Unlocks in Universe 7
Colony Upgrades (3 per Base) Territory Trading Fate's Choice (Paradox X control)
Universe 7 adds depth to the economic and territorial layers. Colony upgrades allow up to 3 Colonies per Base, increasing income from each territory beyond the baseline tribute. Territory trading enables direct negotiation between players — segments can be exchanged for Nn or other segments. Fate's Choice is the universe's dramatic new element: when a Paradox X alert triggers, a Hero can choose to delay the cycle end (pay Nn to postpone collapse) or accelerate it (profit from the chaos of early collapse).
The Story: Growth
Building knowledge reaches a new level. Bases can grow — Colonies extend influence further across the territory. Trade routes between Heroes become possible for the first time. What was once contested is now negotiable. And then: the seventh cycle brings something unprecedented. You learn to sense the approach of Paradox — a tear in the fabric of reality that you can now feel before it arrives.
When it touches your consciousness, you understand: you have a CHOICE. Accept the inevitable and profit from the chaos of early collapse... or pay the price to postpone the end. But fate can only be delayed once. That single use demands perfect timing — and perfect timing requires knowing, better than anyone, exactly where the Paradox X artifacts are at this moment.
Colony Building Strategy
The Colony upgrade chain is the biggest economic decision in Universe 7. Each Colony adds income to a territory already generating tribute. The cost-benefit of Colony investment:
- Building a Colony costs Nn upfront but generates additional income each round
- Maximum 3 Colonies per Base equals maximum income per territory
- Colonies are required for Stations (Nexus) at Universe 10 — but Stations require a full chain of 3 Colonies first
- Asters can upgrade Colonies to Advanced Station (their exclusive tech) starting at Universe 7, making them uniquely powerful here
Fate's Choice
Fate's Choice is the most psychologically interesting mechanic in Universe 7. When the Paradox X energy signature appears — signaling that the 3 artifacts will likely be collected soon — a Hero who activates Fate's Choice can choose between two options:
- Delay: Spend Nn to postpone cycle end. This benefits players who are behind — more time to build position before the cycle resets and carries Enriched Nn forward.
- Accelerate: Take the collapse bonus now. Players with strong positions benefit from ending the cycle quickly before competitors close the gap.
Fate's Choice can only be activated once per cycle, and the first player to use it locks out all others. It creates a negotiation meta: which player benefits from delay versus acceleration? Will the player holding Fate's Choice use it to their advantage, or hold it as leverage? In multi-player games, Fate's Choice becomes a bargaining chip as much as a direct action — other players may offer Nn or concessions to influence how and when it's deployed.
Territory Trading
Territory trading unlocks the first direct player-to-player economic negotiation in the game. Players can exchange controlled segments for Nn, other segments, or future promises (non-binding but socially tracked). Trading is most valuable for consolidating fractured territory holdings — a player with scattered single-segment claims can trade them to another player for a contiguous block that enables Colony upgrades and racial legacy completion. It also creates diplomatic dynamics: territory trading with a threatening neighbor can shift their expansion vector away from your core economic zone.
