Gameplay Basics 5 questions

How long does a game take?
A typical game takes 30-60 minutes. The roguelike progression means early universe levels are quicker (20-30 min), while higher levels with more mechanics can take up to an hour. Perfect for game nights!
How many players can play?
The base game supports 2-6 players. We're designing expansion content that could increase this further. The game scales well across all player counts with minimal setup changes.
Is it good for kids?
Absolutely! The game is rated 7+ and has been extensively tested with children. The tutorial system (Recovered Memories) introduces mechanics gradually, making it accessible for young players while maintaining depth for adults.
When will it ship?
We're planning to launch on Kickstarter in 2026 with an estimated delivery window shared during the campaign. Join the waitlist to be notified of exact dates and early bird pricing.
Can I try it before buying?
Yes! Join our Discord for links to the Tabletop Simulator mod and printable demo kit. Waitlist members will also receive a free Beta Rules PDF.

How Neutronium Compares 5 questions

What is a 4X board game?
4X stands for Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate — the four core actions that define the genre. Players start with limited resources, explore an unknown map, expand their territory, exploit resources to build an empire, and exterminate rivals to win. Classic examples include Twilight Imperium and Eclipse. Neutronium: Parallel Wars is a 4X board game designed to be learned in minutes, not hours — the Recovered Memories system introduces all 47 mechanics gradually across 13 sessions, so you never need to read a rulebook.
How is Neutronium different from Twilight Imperium?
Both are 4X space board games, but they solve opposite problems. Twilight Imperium is a 6–10 hour epic for dedicated groups requiring hours of setup. Neutronium: Parallel Wars plays in 30–60 minutes with no rulebook — the Recovered Memories system unlocks mechanics gradually across 13 parallel universes. Where TI4 demands a full weekend, Neutronium delivers deep 4X strategy in a single game night.
Is there really no rulebook?
Correct. The Recovered Memories system introduces one mechanic at a time as your race remembers lost technologies, so you learn by playing instead of reading. There is a one-page reference, but no rulebook to study before your first game.
How does it compare to Eclipse or other 4X games?
Most tabletop 4X games front-load their complexity in a thick rulebook and a long setup. Neutronium spreads that complexity across 13 universes that unlock gradually, so the entry point is a 5-minute start while the ceiling still reaches 47 mechanics.
Is it good for players new to 4X?
Yes. Universe 1 starts with a single mechanic and is accessible from age 7. New players can win an early-universe game in 30 minutes, then grow into the deeper systems at their own pace.

Mechanics & Strategy 6 questions

What are Recovered Memories?
Recovered Memories is the progression system that unlocks new mechanics each universe as your race remembers technologies lost in a prior war. It doubles as the tutorial: the game teaches itself one memory at a time.
What is Paradox X?
Paradox X is a high-risk event mechanic introduced early that can reshape the board. It rewards players who plan around uncertainty and adds tension to otherwise deterministic 4X turns.
How does combat work?
Combat resolves around army composition and territory control rather than long dice-rolling chains, so engagements stay fast. Higher universes layer in additional tactical options as they unlock.
Which races can I play?
The four playable races are the Terano, the Asters, the Mi-To, and the Iit. Each is asymmetric, with distinct abilities that change how you explore, fight, and score.
How do you win?
Victory is based on a scoring system with multiple paths, including territory, artifacts, and objectives, so there is no single dominant strategy. The active win conditions broaden as more universes unlock.
Is there a solo mode?
Yes. A dedicated solo mode lets you play the full progression against the system, making it a strong option for learning the game or playing when no group is available.

Components & Setup 4 questions

What comes in the box?
Final component contents are being locked for the campaign and will be detailed on the Kickstarter page. The design uses a modular hex board, race components, artifact cards, and progression tokens.
How long does setup take?
Setup is intentionally short, roughly 5 minutes, because there is no rulebook to reference and the first universe uses a minimal component subset.
Do I need an app to play?
No. Neutronium: Parallel Wars is a fully analog board game. No companion app is required to play or to learn it.
Is the game language-dependent?
Gameplay relies mostly on iconography, with minimal text on components, which keeps it accessible across languages. This site itself is published in 50 languages.

Lore Deep Dives

Several FAQ answers above link to dedicated lore pages. These are worth reading if you want to understand the game's narrative before you play. The fiction and the mechanics are designed to reinforce each other.

The Alpha Core, Paradox X, and Mega-Structure pages each run over 800 words and cover both lore and mechanical detail. Reading one or two before your first session gives the game's universe a foundation that makes the mechanics feel meaningful from turn one.
